Nguyen & Lo Settle for Silver

Christine Nguyen and Poy Lo lost a heart-breaking third set to settle for the silver medal at the CCAA National Championship.

The Mixed Doubles team was looking for redemption against the only team to defeat them during the post-season. Nguyen & Lo jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the opening set, only to see their opponents from the ACAC storm back with ten straight points. The Sting dropped the opening set 21-12 following a number of unforced errors.

Undeterred, the Sting took an 11-9 lead in the second set at the interval. With their season hanging in the balance, the Sting forced a third set with a 22-20 win.

Nguyen and Lo battled in the third set, taking an 11-9 at the interval. Their moment ran out when the teams switched sides as the ACAC evened the set and surpassed the Sting for a 21-17 win.

The silver medal was the first national medal for the Badminton team since 2017 when the Sting captured a pair of national championships and a silver medal in Women's Doubles. Nguyen was paired with Rachel Nham for the silver medal in 2017.
