Sting Drop Opener to Saints

The Seneca Sting dropped the opening game of the season against the St. Clair Saints 11-0 (6 innings).

The Saints started the game off with a bang as Kim Moroun led off the season with a triple. The Sting were able to record the next two outs with Moroun scoring on a sacrifice by Jenna Hillman. Things went badly for the Sting after that as the Saints scored six more runs in the opening inning.

Chantel Gendron entered the game in relief, pitching three scoreless innings before allowing a run in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth inning to complete the scoring.

Nicole Pound had the lone hit for the Sting, ripping a double to right centerfield off the fence. Jasmin Namnama also reached base on a walk.

Gendron gave up 5 hits, 4 runs and 2 walks while striking out one in five innings of relief. Amanda Van de Graaf started the game for the Sting, allowing 7 runs on 6 hits with a walk.

Moroun, Megan Lumley and Lauryn Schram each had a pair of hits for the Saints. Olivia Elliott pitched six innings, allowing one run, one walk and striking out 11 batters.

Game 2

The second game saw the Sting push the Saints early. Trailing 3-0 after three innings, Nicole Pound drilled the ball to deep right centerfield for a triple, kicking up a heap of dirt as she beat the throw into third base. Pound would later score in the inning on an error.

Gendron gave up 14 runs on 14 hits, 4 walks and secured 3 strikeouts while her counterpart Sara Stiller allowed just 1 hit, 1 walk and striking out 7 in 6 innings.

Moroun, Alexandra Senft, Madisyn Clark and Rya Cowan each had a multi-hit game with Cowan scoring four runs.
