Defense Shuts Down Panthers

The Seneca Sting (13-2) defeated the Canadore Panthers (6-10) 84-33 to win their sixth straight and remain atop the OCAA East Division.

In their best defensive performance of the season, the Sting contested Panthers' shots throughout the game, holding the Panthers to ten or fewer points in three of the four quarters.

With the score tied 2-2, the Sting held the Panthers scoreles for the next 6:25 of the opening quarter as they went on a 15-0 run to grab a stranglehold on the game early. The defending OCAA and CCAA champions showed off their defensive prowess again in the fourth quarter, holding the Panthers scoreless for the first 7:24 while outscoring the Panthers 14-0 over that stretch.

Julio Vazquez topped the Sting with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including five three-pointers. Nabil Ibrahm had a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 steals. Daniel Wright scored 15 points and added 7 rebounds and Dakoda Lewis had 10 points.

Jake Rae was the lone standout for the Panthers, scoring 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting. D'Shawn Johnson chipped in 7 rebounds while Zach Martyn added 6 rebounds.

As a team, the Sting shot 43.2% from the field while the Panthers were just 16.7%. The Sting outrebounded the Panthers 49-38 and held a 19-2 advantage in team assists.
