Sting Fall to Thunder

The Seneca Sting fell to the Algonquin Thunder 82-72 to drop their record to 7-2.

The Thunder jumped on the Sting from the opening tip, storming to a 27-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Thunder shot 59% in the opening quarter including 5-of-8 from three point range. Simon Desta paced the Thunder with 9 points thanks to 3-of-4 shooting from three point range.

The Sting began to chip away at the Thunder lead, closing to within six at halftime as the home team trailed 42-36. Isaiah Ankra began to assert himself as the Sting leader on the floor tonight, scoring six points in the quarter.

With the home crowd urging on the Sting, an Isse Ibrahim jumper gave the Sting their first lead since an 8-7 lead early in the first quarter. Ibrahim's shot put the Sting up 48-47 as the home crowd rose to their feet in appreciation. The Thunder would not go quietly though, regaining a two point lead at the end of the third quarter 57-55.

The Thunder, seeking a win over the reigning National Champions on their home floor seized the opportunity in the fourth quarter, never trailing beyond the 18 second mark in the quarter as they quieted the crowd and picked up an important win.

Isaiah Ankra led the Sting with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Isse Ibrahim finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Nabil Ibrahim added 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Gabriel Anderson paced the Thunder with 22 points while Daoud Soukary (16 points) and Desta (15 points) aided the win.
