Sting Settle Back Into The Hive

The Seneca Sting (6-5) defeated the Loyalist Lancers (5-8) 55-39 in their return to The Hive.

Following a one-game trip to the brand new Magna Hall at King Campus, the Sting returned to a familiar place, ending a three game losing streak in the process.

Looking to improve their play, the Sting turned up their defensive pressure in the opening quarter. After each time exchanged a pair of baskets to open the game, the Sting held the Lancers scoreless for nine minutes of game time, including the final 8:33 of the first quarter to open up a ten point lead.

The Lancers made adjustments and were able to cut the Sting lead to 27-20 at halftime as Brittany Mason hit a three-pointer with nine seconds to go in the second quarter.

The third quarter saw the Sting blow the game wide open, holding the Lancers scoreless for the first seven minutes of the quarter and allowing just three points in the quarter. Offensively, the Sting scored sixteen points in the quarter to open a 43-23 lead.

Both teams started the fourth quarter slowly as the Sting scored the lone four points of the opening 3:54. The Lancers would go on to have their best offensive quarter of the game, but it was far too little as the Sting won by sixteen.

Taylor Allicock led the Sting with 13 points to go along with a pair of assists and 3 steals. Brianna-mae Clough added 12 points and 11 rebounds along with a trio of steals. Chelsea Ramsay chipped in 13 rebounds.

The Lancers were led by Kate Raso who finished with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Mason contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds.

As a team, the Sting shot 28.4% while holding the Lancers to just 15.6% and held a 60-28 advantage in rebounds.
