Sting Defeat Crosstown Rival

The Seneca Sting (7-5) defeated the Centennial Colts (1-13) 70-40 this evening for their second consecutive win.

As the city continues to dig themselves out of the record snowfall which hit Toronto twenty-four hours prior, it was the two Toronto rivals battling in their first of two games over a 14-day span.

With the two teams' seasons going in different directions, the Sting looked to avoid the upset while the Colts were looking for something positive on what has been a down season. Learning from their first semester match up, the Sting took it to the Colts early, taking control of the game from the onset after narrowly escaping with a two-point road victory in the first semester.

The Sting scored the first five points of the game and never looked back, holding a 21-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Making the most of their size advantage and overall team skill, the Sting dominated in the paint, outrebounding the Colts 63-38. Ball movement was also a key to the Sting victory as the home team held a 14-3 advantage in team assists.

Looking to get into a position to host a playoff Crossover game, the Sting increased their intensity on defense, forcing 22 turnovers.

The Sting, looking to get back to the OCAA Championship, took full advantage of having the game in hand early by getting everyone into the game. The result was the Sting bench outscoring the Colts 40-15 with Taylor Allicock leading the Sting with 22 off the bench.

Allicock added 7 rebounds to her team-leading 22 points. Brianna-mae Clough scored 14 points and added 7 rebounds to go along with 5 assists. Chelsea Ramsay and Shy Cousins each added 11 rebounds. Faith-Ann Allison registered 7 points and 4 rebounds off the bench.

The Colts were led by Judy Ta who scored 16 points while adding 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Michelle Beloso (6 points) and MaryAnn Blake (5 points) also contributed offensively. Michelle Bowel add 6 rebounds for the Colts.
