Sting Win East Regional

The Seneca Sting won the OCAA Badminton East Regional this weekend, finishing with 22 points on the Women's side and 25 on the Men's.

Leading the Sting on the Women's side was the doubles team of Yan Zhou (China) and Rachel Nham (Vietnam). Zhou/Nham were perfect, going 4-0. Zhou is looking for a second consecutive CCAA Championship after capturing gold last year with Suzy Yan.

Sallie Jiang (Toronto) finished second in Women's Singles, sporting a 5-2 record and finishing behind Aanchal Mehra from Centennial who was undefeated.

Wenchao Shi dominated the Men's Singles division, going 6-0 while entertaining the crowd with both his technical play and his showmanship.

The Men's Doubles team of Allan Tong and Peter Nie were also undefeated following five consecutive victories.

In Mixed Doubles, Christina Troung (Toronto) and Eldon Lai (Richmond Hill) finished third with a 4-2 record.

All eight student-athletes advanced to the OCAA Championship by finishing in the top three in their event. The OCAA Championship will be hosted February 19-20 at Seneca College where the top three finishers in each event will compete against the top three finishers in each event from the OCAA West Regional.
