Nut & Seed Butters

When choosing nut or seed butters, read the list of ingredients on the label. There should only be one or two ingredients, nuts or seeds and maybe salt. If there are other added ingredients, pass. Added ingredients tend to be low quality and offer no nutritional value (i.e. soybean oil, corn syrup, sugar) or are unhealthy (i.e. hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil). They are added make nut butters more spreadable and keep the nuts oil from separating from the solids, or make the product sweeter and to make it shelf-stable. All-natural nut and seed butters are really delicious on their own, added ingredients do little from flavour perspective and may even mask the true taste of the nut or seed. If you want to some more sweetness, add a little honey.
