Sting Open Season Swinging

The Seneca Sting (1-0) opened the 2019 season with a 12-1 win over the Lambton Lions (0-1) in five innings.

The Sting opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Following a lead off walk by Edwin Der Weer, Cooper Lamb, in his first OCAA at bat, launched a line drive to left centerfield off the fence. Second year Daniel Perrier scored Lamb two batters later on a single. The Sting added a third run in the opening inning on a groundout by Joelson Del Rosario.

Trailing 5-0 in the fourth inning, Jake Taylor scored the first run ever for the Lions, moments after recording the inaugural hit for the Lions.

The Sting would tack on four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning, highlighted by a Rodney Gilbert home run.

Der Weer completed the scoring in the fifth inning with an opposite field two-run homer.

The win marked the first time the Sting have opened the season with a win, dropping their previous six. The game also marked the inaugural game for the Lions who entered OCAA Baseball for 2019.

Perrier went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of runs. Gilbert went 2-for-2 with a walk, 2 RBIs and 3 runs. Jordan Blake was 2-for-3 and an RBI and Dan Seguinwas 2-for-2 with a pair of runs and an RBI.

Taylor, Joey Stock and Nick Sheeler each had one hit apiece for the Lions while Drew Pepper reached on a walk.

Justin Walked picked up the win for the Sting, pitching 4 innings while allowing 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and striking out 6. Eric Steeves suffered the loss, pitching 4 innings, allowing 9 runs (5 earned) on 10 hits, striking out 2 and walking 4.
