Sting Open Season With Sweep

The Seneca Sting (2-0) completed their opening day sweep against the Lambton Lions (0-2) with a 9-4 win.

The Sting took a page out of their success in game one and kicked it up a notch, striking early against the Lions. The first six batters for the Sting reached base in the bottom half of the first inning, scoring five runs before the first out was recorded, a sacrifice fly by Edwin Kim. The Sting added a sixth run in the inning when Jordan Blake scored on an error.

The Lions struck back, scoring a run in the top of the second inning before Brady Hogg hit the first home run in Lions' history, a two-run shot which pulled the OCAA Baseball-newcomers with a pair of runs.

After adding a run in the bottom of the third inning, Rodney Gilbert punctuated his opening day with the Sting by hitting his second two-run home run of the afternoon in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.

The Lions opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Jake Taylor scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by Riley Brown.

Gilbert went 3-for-4 with a trio of RBIs and two runs scored. Cooper Lamb (2-for-4, 2 runs), Joelson Del Rosario (2-for-3, 1 run, 1 RBI) and Blake (2-for-3, 1 run) each added a pair of hits.

Joey Stock finished 3-for-4 for the Lions while Hogg was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

Dan Seguin picked up the win for the Sting, going three innings while allowing 6 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Jake Ruby finished the game for the Sting, allowing 2 hits, 3 walks and striking out 7 batters. Paul Sheeler suffered the loss, allowing 5 hits, 6 runs (5 earned), 2 walks and 3 strikeouts over 1.2 innings. Jake Taylor came on in relief and surrendered 6 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 2 walks and 4 strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
