Sting Suffer First Loss

The Seneca Sting (7-1) suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Humber Hawks (10-2) 11-2.

The Hawks opened the scoring in the first inning. Liam Sutherlan reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, advanced to third on an error and then scored on an error. The Sting avoided further damage when Justin Walker was able to strand two runners, striking out Aidan Murphy to end the inning.

The Hawks added to their lead in the second, scoring a pair of runs against the division leaders. Ty Martin led off the inning with a double and later scored on a Jared Gonsalves single to right field. Gonsalves scored on a two-out RBI single by Sutherlan.

Trailing 3-0, the Sting added a pair of runs in the fourth inning when Rodney Gilbert and Dan Perrier scored. Gilbert led off with a single while Perrier followed up by reaching on an error. With runners in scoring position, Joelson Del Rosario delivered a single to right field, driving Gilbert home. Perrier scored two batters on a balk.

Martin regained the two-run lead for the Hawks in the fifth, scoring when Stephen Narhabeki was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Hawks blew the game open in the sixth inning when they scored six runs on just three hits, highlighted by a Gonsalves two-run home run and a solo shot by Narhabeki.

Edwin Der Weer had 2 hits for the Sting while Cooper Lamb, Gilbert (1 run) and Del Rosario (1 RBI) each had one hit apiece.

Martin was 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored and an RBI for the Hawks. Gonsalves also had a pair of hits, 2 runs and 3 RBIs. Sam Lebel had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5. Narhabeki added two RBIs.

Braden Taylor picked up the win, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, 3 walks and recording 9 strikeouts. Justin Walker suffered the loss for the Sting, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits, 5 walks and striking out 6 batters in 4.2 innings.
