Sting Remain Tops in OCAA East

The Men's Volleyball team (9-2) opened the second semester with a convincing three set sweep over the Georgian Grizzlies (8-3) to remain atop the OCAA East Division.

In a battle of two of the top teams in the OCAA East Division, it was the Sting who was the better team, completing a season sweep over the Grizzlies after winning in four sets in November on the road.

The Sting won the first set in convincing fashion, 25-19 before the two teams engaged in a 'nail-biter' second set.

With the Grizzlies leading 23-18, Sidney Wilding (Oshawa) proceeded to help the Sting score six straight points thanks to a powerful serve that put the Grizzlies on the defensive. The Sting would prevail 26-24 and would close out the match 25-22.

Toms Gaikis (Cesis, Latvia) led the Sting with 15 points thanks to a match-high 12 kills. Wilding added 7 kills and a team-leading 6 digs and David Lazarov (Maple) contributed 7 kills. Gaikis and Ishmael Kotey (Mississauga) each had 3 blocks.

The Grizzlies were led by Caleb Campbell who had 7 kills and 2 blocks. Darien Haynes added 6 kills and Bruce Nguyen had a match-high 7 digs.

The Sting travel to Canadore (4-8) this Saturday at 3:00pm while the Grizzlies host the Centennial Colts (1-10) Saturday, also at 3:00pm.
