Sting Close Out Fall Semester With Loss

The Seneca Sting fell to the Algonquin Thunder in their final regular season game of the Fall semester 78-71.

In a battle of two of the top three teams in the OCAA East Division, it was the Thunder who started quickly, jumping out to a 5-1 lead. A Taylor Allicock three pointer brought the Sting to within one and appeared to ignite the home team, but the basket would be half of the points scored for one of the reigning OCAA Three Stars. The Thunder held a 13-12 at the end of the first quarter.

The Thunder created some separation in the second quarter, outscoring the Sting 20-11 to take a ten-point lead into halftime.

In a complete contrast to the second quarter, the Sting played one of their best quarters of the season, scoring twenty-nine points while taking a 52-51 lead after three quarters. Brianna-mae Clough game alive in the quarter, scoring ten points while Danielle Belcher added nine points.

The fourth quarter saw the Thunder regain their lead early and pull away from the Sting as Sylvie Strong matched Clough's third quarter output with ten points in the quarter, leading the Thunder toa  seven-point win. Clough added another nine points in the quarter while Tiffany McNeil added seven points.

Clough led the Sting with 21 points and 10 rebounds. McNeil added 18 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Belcher finished with 15 points while playing 36 of the 40 minutes.

Balanced scoring powered the Thunder as Strong (16 points), Hadeza Ismaila (14 points 11 rebounds), Sierra Peck (14 points, 6 rebounds), Rita Sibo (13 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 6 steals) and Arianna Gagnon (12 points) all reached double digits.
