Sting Swept by Thunder

The Seneca Sting were looking to gain ground on the Algonquin Thunder in hopes of strengthening their playoff position in the OCAA East Division. That opportunity slipped away early as the Sting were swept by the Thunder in straight sets.

The Sting played a strong opening set, leading 16-15 before the Thunder stormed back with five consecutive points en route to taking the set 25-19.

The final two sets were much of the same with the Sting holding early leads, only to see the Thunder put together a run and take the sets.

Nicole Boyd (Cambridge) led the Sting with 11 kills while also adding 5 digs. Victoria Wensley (Saskatoon) added 9 kills. Paulynne Reyes (Edmonton) had a match-high 22 assists while Jahneisha Stephenson (Scarborough) added to her OCAA lead with 25 digs. Amy Sayaveth (Bradford) had 12 digs.

The Thunder were led by Julianna Tebrake who had 7 kills and 5 digs. Serah Rounds-Zavitz added 6 kills and 7 digs while Breanne Scheerhoorn had 5 kills and 8 digs. Brooke Sheldrick was tops with 17 assists and Jazzmyn Barnett-Isaac had 12 digs.

The Sting (6-7) get back in action tomorrow when they host the La Cité Coyotes (4-9) at 3:00pm while the Thunder (9-5) travel to Centennial (1-12) tomorrow at 1:00pm.
