Sting Down Colts
The Seneca Sting took another step towards securing a playoff spot tonight, sweeping the Centennial Colts.
The Sting captured the opening set 26-24 after trailing the Colts 24-20. Nicole Mironov (Toronto) helped lead the Sting comeback. Mironov's strong serving game yielded an ace during the run while a number of other serves created receiving problems for the Colts.
The second set saw the Sting take control of the match, cruising to a 25-16 win.
In a closely contested third set, the Sting prevailed 25-21 to take the match.
Nicole Boyd (Cambridge) led the Sting with 8 kills and 8 digs. Mironov added 6 kills, 2 aces and 12 digs while Bianca Newman (Ajax) also added 6 kills, 2 aces and 7 digs. Paulynne Reyes (Edmonton) paced the Sting with 24 assists to go along with 2 aces. Jahneisha Stephenson (Scarborough) had a match-high 15 digs.
Mari Pikkov led the Colts with 7 kills and 11 digs. Lizzie Bowers added 5 kills and 3 aces. Lena Mak had 4 kills and 8 digs. Brittany Somers recorded 19 assists and a pair of aces while Kadeisha Powell-Graham matched Pikkov's 11 digs.
The Sting (8-7) are back in action next Friday when they travel to play Fleming (0-15) at 6:00pm while the Colts (1-15) host Trent (11-4) Wednesday at 6:00pm.
