Sting Get First Win

Sting Get First Win

The Seneca Sting earned their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over the Niagara Knights.

Both teams played a passive match early, looking for an opportunity to attack while negating any chances in their own end.

The match began to open up midway through the first half with both sides creating offensive chances.

As the match went from one end of the field to the other, the Sting struck first. Jovan Thomas took advantage of some open space and drove a shot past Sam Robson in the Knights' net for his first goal of the season.

The goal came during the opening moments of injury time as the Sting took a 1-0 lead into the half.

Early in the second half, the Knights looked to even the match. The Knights had a point-blank opportunity in the 51st minute, but Sting goalkeeper Tayjen Campbell made two saves to maintain the slim lead.

A defensive miscue by the Sting in the 59th minute led to another Knights opportunity, but Campbell once again rose to the challenge on the partial breakaway.

The Knights continued to look for the equalizer goal and nearly evened the match in the 73rd minute. Campbell charged out of the goal for a loose ball, but the Knights attacked flipped it over Campbell's slide. With an open goal, the Sting forced an errant shot over the goal to keep the lead in tact.

The Sting thwarted every offensive attack by the Knights until the final whistle, earning their first victory of the season.

With the win, the Sting move to 1-5-0 on the season while the Knights fall to 2-4-1.
