Sting Capture OCAA Championship

The Seneca Sting captured the OCAA Women's Indoor Soccer Championship in penalty kicks over the Humber Hawks.

The two teams, meeting for the second time in two days after the Hawks defeated the Sting 1-0 in pool play, were as evenly matched as two teams could be. The two sides were scoreless during regulation and were not able to settle the championship in two overtime periods.

Penalty kicks saw both teams experience highs and lows as it reached the eighth round. Martina Pannia scored the championship-winning goal for the Sting as the Sting won on penalty kicks 6-5.

Sting goalkeeper Raven Edwards-Dowdall was flawless all championship, making a pair of saves in penalty kicks en route to being named OCAA Championship Most Valuable Player.

Jordan Burke and Michelle Covello were each named OCAA Championship All-Stars while Edwards was also named the top goalkeeper.

The win was especially memorable for the members of the 2019-20 team. The Sting were undefeated in pool play and looked like a juggernaut for an OCAA Championship, but the COVID-19 pandemic halted the championship in the early hours of the final day.
