Six Sting Named CCAA Academic All-Canadian

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) announced their 2021-22 CCAA Academic All-Canadian award recipients. The CCAA Academic All-Canadian award, presented by Brandnew Athlete, is the CCAA’s most prestigious student-athlete honour, epitomizing a commitment to academic success and athletic achievement.

To be named a CCAA Academic All-Canadian, a student-athlete must be an honours student at their institution as well as earned a conference award designation. 

Six members of the Seneca Sting were recognized for their achievements both in the classroom and in sport. Receiving the awards were Tessa Liu (Badminton), Alessia Da Silva (Soccer), Atif Ali (Soccer), Nick Spittle (Soccer), Aaron Toniolo (Soccer) and Abel Shen (Volleyball)

Liu added another accomplishment to her historic season. Liu captured both the OCAA and CCAA Championship in women's singles, OCAA Female Athlete of the Year, OCAA Women's Badminton Player of the Year, OCAA All-Star, CCAA All-Canadian, Seneca Sting Athlete of the Year, Seneca Sting Badminton Most Valuable Player while also being a part of the OCAA Women's Badminton team champions.

Da Silva was named the OCAA Central Division Defensive Player of the Year while helping the Sting secure a 6-0-0 regular season.

Ali was named an OCAA Championship All-Star while Spittle was named an OCAA Central Division All-Star. Toniolo was also recognized as an OCAA Central Division All-Star in addition to being named OCAA Central Division Defensive Player of the Year. The Men's Soccer team finished the regular season 4-1-1 and captured an OCAA Bronze medal.

Shen was named an OCAA East Division Second-Team All-Star. The Sting setter guided the team to a 6-2 regular season and OCAA Championship quarter-final.
