Badminton With Strong Showing on Day One

The Seneca Sting were well represented on day one of the CCAA National Championship in women's singles and men's doubles.

All-Canadian Moti Shams entered the championship as part of the OCAA Wildcard team and competed in a "match of the championship" candidate. Shams squared off with the OCAA champion from Conestoga and despite the loss, came away with many positives in defeat 21-18, 21-17. Shams came up short in her second match against Concordia 21-7, 21-15 before responding with a dominant 21-4, 21-7 win over Sainte Anne's.

The duo of Anthony Tso and Kevin Shah also opened with a nail-biter against the OCAA champion from Humber. The Sting fell in three sets 13-21, 25-23, 22-24, but responded with a pair of wins to close out day one. The duo defeated SAIT 21-12, 21-18 and Mount Allison 21-14, 21-13 to position themselves for a shot at a semi-final match.

The CCAA Badminton National Championship will continue on Friday with rounds four and five followed by the semi-finals in each division. The placement (5/6) and medal matches will take place on Saturday. The championship is being hosted by Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S.
