Sting Settle for Silver

Sting Settle for Silver

The women's indoor soccer team fell in extra time to the Humber Hawks at the OCAA Championship to come away with a silver medal.

Following a 2-1-0 record in the round robin, the Sting faced local rival, the George Brown Huskies (2-0-1) in the semi-final. The Sting struck first as Martina Pannia beat the Huskies' goalkeeper. Both sides traded chances throughout the remainder of the match, but Pannia's goal held up as the Sting punched their ticket to the championship match with an opportunity to repeat as OCAA Champions.

In the gold medal match, the Sting met the Humber Hawks for the second consecutive year. The match appeared to be heading to a similar finish as last season when Pannia's successful attempt in penalty kicks gave the Sting the victory. Scoreless through regulation time, the Hawks were awarded a penalty kick during extra time and converted the opportunity for the lone goal in the match.

Goalkeeper Christina Diaco was named co-Championship Top Goalkeeper (with Humber) while Olivia Lamacchia and Pannia were named Championship All-Stars.
