Hagerman Walks Off in Opener

Austin Hagerman had a memorable first career game in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), going 4-4 with a game-winning hit as the Sting defeated the Sault Cougars 10-9.

The first-year shortstop also scored three runs as the Sting won the opening game of the season. With the game tied 9-9, Hagerman delivered an RBI single, scoring Roberto Pagliero to cap the come-from-behind win for the Sting.

The Sting exploded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Cougars responded with five runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-4 lead.

The two teams exchanged a trio of runs between the bottom of the fourth inning and the top of the fifth as the Cougars maintained the two-run lead. Two of the Cougars' runs in the fifth inning came off the bat of Curtis Chorba who homered for the first in Cougars history.

Beyond Hagerman's success at the plate, Tyler Hill and Ruby each had a pair of hits. Hill added a run and two RBIs while Ruby had a run and RBI. AJ Rowe and Eric Baker each added a pair of RBIs on one hit apiece.

Chris Rolfe picked up the win, allowing one hit and striking out four in three innings. Dan Seguin started for the Sting, allowing four runs (four earned) on six hits, six walks and three strikeouts in three innings. Matteo Stothers pitched one inning, allowing five runs (five earned) on two hits, five walks and two strikeouts.

The game marked the first official OCAA appearance for the Cougars who entered league play this season along with the Sheridan Bruins.
