Sting Fall on Walk-Off Triple

Sting Fall on Walk-Off Triple

The Seneca Sting surrendered a bases-loaded triple on the final pitch of the game, falling to the Durham Lords 11-10.

For the majority of the game, the Sting looked poised to improve their record to 3-0 on the season, but one inning changed everything as the Sting allowed six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, losing a game they never trailed in until the final pitch.

The two teams exchanged a pair of runs in the first inning before the Sting took control of the game. The Sting scored five runs in the top of the second inning as Austin Hagerman, AJ Rowe (2), Tyler Hill and Evan Bolieau each had RBIs in the inning.

The teams traded runs three times over the next five innings, leaving the Sting comfortably in in the lead 10-5. The first Lords batter was hit by a pitch followed by a single, but a pair of outs left runners on first and second with two outs. Ethan Drews drove in two runs with a single and stole two bases before scoring on a Nnick King single. A two-out walk loaded the bases where Ryan Mattes tripled to clear the bases and win the game for the Lords.

The Lords stole 14 bases in the game and were caught just once while the Sting stole three bases on two by Hill and one by Hagerman.

Hagerman, Dan Seguin, Rowe and Chris Rolfe each had two hits and scored two runs for the Sting. Hill also added a pair of hits while Jake Ruby scored twice. Hagerman and Rowe each finished with three RBIs.

Caleb Battye suffered the loss for the Sting, allowing six runs (six earned) on five hits with three walks over 1.2 innings. Justin Walker started the game, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits, two walks and eight strikeouts in five innings.
