One Inning Dooms Sting

One Inning Dooms Sting

The Seneca Sting gave up seven runs in one inning, falling to the Mohawk Mountaineers 7-1.

The Sting, playing as the visiting team on their home field due to a new scheduling format this season in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), scored the opening run of the game in the top of the second inning. Jaidyn Wandelt singled to score Cassidy Warner for what would be the lone run for the Sting.

A revolving door of pitchers was used by the Sting throughout the game which may have cost the team in the end. Taylor Stewart started the game before exiting in favour of Alexia Koitsopolous. Alyssa Van Der Werf entered to pitch two-thirds of an inning after Koitsopolous recorded just a single out and walked two batters. Stewart returned to surrender seven runs, all earned, in the sixth inning.

Avery Thomson led the Sting with a pair of hits (2-for-3). Anyssa Hill, Caity Allen, Warner and Wandelt each recorded one hit for the Sting.

Stewart pitched five innings in total over the two appearances, allowing six hits, four walks and two strikeouts. Van Der Werf allowed one hit and struck out one batter in limited work.
