Alfred Nets Four in Season Opener

CCAA All-Canadian Shanice Alfred scored four goals as the Seneca Sting opened the season with a 10-1 win over the Loyalist Lancers.

The third year forward scored four straight goals for the Sting in a span of 21 minutes, quickly turning a 2-0 lead into a 6-0 route by halftime.

Faith Metcalfe-Simiana opened the scoring for the Sting in the 7th minute, scoring on a crossing shot from the right side of the 18-yard box.

Martina Pannia scored her first of two goals in the 9th minute, firing a shot past a helpless Lancers' goalkeeper. Pannia added a marker in the 46th minute.

The Sting dominated the game from start to finish, firing 41 shots on Lancers' goalkeeper Emily Mealing to just three by the Lancers. Seneca attempted nine corner kicks in the game while the Lancers failed to secure one.

Following Pannia's second tally, the Lancers got on the scoreboard as Mackenzie Atkinson converted on a miscue by goalkeeper Christina Diaco to break the shutout in the 49th minute.

Jianna Mustafaj (67'), Francesca Famele (80') and Diaco (83') each scored in the second half for the Sting to complete the scoring.

Seneca's Mia Sills took over in goal for the Sting in the second half, but did not face a single shot.
