Sting Welcome Dubeau to Lead Dance Team

The Seneca Sting are pleased to announce that Jessica Dubeau has been named head coach of the Dance team.

Dubeau is a professional dancer, choreographer and creative director with more than a decade of experience. It was this wide range of experience that separated Dubeau from the other candidates to Seneca’s John Sharpe, Manager, Varsity & Operations.

“Jessica checked all the boxes in who we were looking for to lead the Varsity Dance team. Her background as a professional dancer and choreographer elevates our program immediately” Sharpe said.

Dubeau will take over a team which has been idle for two seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions that followed. Although the 2021-22 Varsity season occurred, spectators were not permitted on campus, limited the entertainment value the team provides at Sting home events.

Well-versed in a variety of types of dances including ballet, hip hop and Caribbean, Dubeau plans to integrate these styles into creating exciting and entertaining performances by the team.

My extensive and diverse background in the sport gives me the gift of experiential knowledge over a number of genres and all dance levels. That understanding is precisely what's needed when bringing together a dance team spanning a campus as diverse as Seneca.”

Currently, Dubeau runs Creative Dance Solutions and is an Educational Partner and Dance Mentor with the Toronto District School Board, a partnership that has been ongoing for a decade. Dubeau also has experience in professional sports as a former cheerleader with the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) Toronto Argonauts.

Although this will be Dubeau’s first post-secondary coaching experience, Dubeau understands the impact Varsity sport can have on a student-athlete as well as the impact a student-athlete can have on the college community.

My goals for the dance team this season is to explore every dancer's ability and strength while having opportunities to showcase them. With the support of our team's culture, I expect every athlete will be a stronger more confident versions of themselves by the end of the season. My hope is that the team will be a topic of conversation for all the right reasons. Together we have an opportunity to build a strong foundation that will set the standard for many years to come.”

Tryouts for the Dance team will commence on September 29.
