Sting Earn Split Against Huskies

The Seneca Sting earned a split against the George Brown Huskies, powered by Caleb Battye's one-hitter in the opening game. Needing to win both games to reach the post-season, the Battye threw his best game as a Sting. The second-year pitcher surrendered four walks while allowing just one hit over seven innings. Battye's performance was even more impressive given the opposition as George Brown's Finlay Butler allowed just four hits in the game. The Sting struck first in the fourth inning when AJ Rowe hit a two-run homer, scoring Tyler Hill to provide Battye with all the run support needed. Dan Seguin added insurance in the sixth inning, driving in Rowe and Hill with a double.

The second game saw the Sting strike first in the opening inning. Melvin Pujols singled home Hill while Rowe scored on a Jake Ruby sacrifice fly. The Huskies evened the score in the second inning and went ahead in the third. Clinging to a 3-2 lead, the Huskies exploided a number of defensive errors by the Sting, scoring nine runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. The Sting scored one more run in the bottom half of the sixth when Erik Baker drove home Battye.

  • Each team had nine hits over the two games
  • Hill and Rowe combined to score six of Seneca's seven runs on the day
  • The Sting left nine runners on base on the second game while the Huskies left 12
  • Only six of the Huskies' 12 runs were earned in game two
  • Hill and Rowe were the only Sting with multiple hits (two each)

The Sting (7-11) saw their season come to an end following back-to-back OCAA Championship appearances, including a bronze medal in 2021.
