Sting Advance on PKs

The Seneca Sting advanced to the CCAA National Championship semi-final with a 1-1 (4-3) win in penalty kicks over the Montmorency Nomades.

Rashad Griffith opened the scoring for the Sting in the 30th minute on a scramble in front of the Nomades goal. The Nomades evened up the match just before halftime, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish.

Neither team was able to score in the second half, sending the match to penalty kicks. Seneca's Anthony Gurrieri made a leg-dragging save early as the two sides were deadlocked 3-3. Gurrieri once again rose to the occassion, stopping the fifth Nomades shooter. Francisco Thomas Cerros calmly drove his attempt into the back of the goal, sending the Sting to the semi-final.

Thomas Cerros was named Player of the Match for the Sting.

The Sting (14-1-0) will play the VIU Mariners on Thursday, November 10 in the semi-final of the CCAA National Championship.
