Cavicchia Gets Nod to Lead Sting

The Seneca Sting are pleased to announce that Rob Cavicchia has been named the Men’s Indoor Soccer interim head coach.

Cavicchia has been an assistant coach with both the indoor and outdoor soccer teams since 2021 under the leadership of Patrice Gheisar.

Familiar with the lead position at a CCAA institution, Cavicchia was previously the head coach of the women’s and men’s soccer teams at Medicine Hat College. In addition to Cavicchia’s coaching duties with the Rattlers, Cavicchia was also the Executive Director of the Medicine Hat Soccer Association.

A National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 2 certified coach and holder of a National B coaching license, Cavicchia began his coaching career at the club level with the York Jets SC. Cavicchia entered the collegiate ranks as an assistant coach at Niagara University (NCAA Division 1).

The Sting are coming off OCAA and CCAA silver medals during the outdoor season and John Sharpe, Manager, Varsity and Operations is optimistic that the momentum will carry over to the indoor season.

“Rob brings both familiarity (with Seneca) and extensive experience at the collegiate level. Rob’s experience as both a student-athlete and coach in the post-secondary environment will help in connecting with the players. The transition should be seamless, and we expect the team to continue to compete for championships.”

Tryouts for the Men’s Indoor Soccer team will be on January 12 in the Newnham Dome. The Sting will host the OCAA Regional Championship on March 1 while the OCAA Championship will be held March 9-10 at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
