Sting Cruise Past Lords into Final

The Seneca Sting advanced to the OCAA Championship gold medal match with a dominating straight sets win over the Durham Lords 25-14, 25-12, 25-20.

In one of their most complete efforts of the season, the Sting overwhelmed the reigning OCAA silver medalists, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the opening set.

The Lords regained their footing at the initial stages of the second set, holding a 4-3 lead, but the relentless attack from the Sting was more than the Lords could handle, surrendering 22 of the final 30 points in the set.

In the most competitive set of the match, the Sting duo of Franz Largadas and Ara Telan continued to beat the Durham blockers as the Sting finished with 17 kills in the set.

Emily Coughlan was named Player of the Match for the Sting, finishign with 36 assists, three kills, five digs and an ace. Durham's Chelsea Oke was also named Player of the Match following a team-high six kills, eight digs, one block, two assists and an ace.

Largadas and Telan paced the Sting with a combined 28 kills and 26 digs while OCAA East Division Second Team All-Star Alex Milot finished with five kills and six digs.

Jayde Smyth led Durham defensively with 40 digs while Aislinn Pedersen matched Oke's six kills while adding 15 digs and a block.

The Sting will play the winner of the Humber/Loyalist match on Saturday at 5pm in the gold medal match while Durham will play at 2:30pm for the bronze medal.
