Women Advance at OCAA Championship

The Women's Indoor Soccer team will play for a medal at the OCAA Championships, advancing to the semi-final on Friday at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

Women's Soccer

Seneca Sting 2, Humber Hawks 1
The Sting opened the championship in a headliner match-up, defeating the Humber Hawks in the first match of the day. Emma Gattoni opened the scoring for the reigning OCAA silver medalist.

Looking to increase their lead, the Sting rattled a shot off the crossbar in the second half and then saw their lead disappear when Emily Robitaille tied the match on a penalty kick.

With only minutes remaining, Faith Metcalfe-Simiana netted the eventual winner when the crossing attempt was mishandled by the Hawks' goalkeeper.

Seneca Sting 1, Centennial Colts 0
The Sting and Colts played very conservative for most of the match with neither team able to produce many chances.

The Sting scored the lone goal of the match when Yoana Peralta found the back of the net to ensure the Sting finished in the top spot in their pool.

Seneca Sting 2, Fanshawe Falcons 0

Men's Soccer

The men's team did not produce the same results as the women's team, going 1-2-0 in pool play. With the third place finish, the Sting failed to advance to tomorrow's semi-final.

Conestoga Condors 4, Seneca Sting 1
Facing the reigning national silver medalists in the outdoor season, the Sting were in tough against the Condors.

Steven Janjicek opened the scoring for the Sting and it looked like the Sting would add to their lead, but a missed penalty kick opportunity proved to be costly.

The Condors offense exploded for four unanswered goals with Josip-Pavle Stojanovic (2), Ricardo Alvarado and Luca Romano each find the back of the Sting goal.

Fanshawe Falcons 2, Seneca Sting 0
In dire need of a win, the Sting failed to get one behind the Falcons goalkeeper.

Kyle Cameron netted a pair of goals for the Falcons for a two-goal lead which would have been more had it not been for the amazing play of Amar Dhindsa who made back-to-back point-blank saves to give the Sting a chance.

The championship concludes Friday, March 8 at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
