Allison Brings Championship Pedigree to Sting

The Seneca Sting are pleased to announce that Scott Allison has been named the Cross Country Running head coach.

Allison has been coaching cross country running at the high school level since 2009. During Allison’s coaching tenure, the Georgetown resident has overseen the Judith Nyman Secondary School Cross Country and Boys Soccer teams, coached special needs track & field and been both a junior and senior vocational basketball coach.

Allison’s experiences as a competitive runner provided him with the desire to give back to the sport once his competitive career wound down.

I have been fortunate to have had great coaches throughout my running career. Starting in high school, the Brampton Track Club and then West Virginia University. These coaches dedicated a lot of their time to help me grow as an athlete and a person. Now that I have the same opportunity, I couldn't be more excited. I am committed to fostering a culture of growth, resiliency, and teamwork. I want to create an environment where every athlete can thrive and push their boundaries.”

An accomplished runner, Allison has represented Canada at the World Cross Country Championships and placed in the top seven on two occasions at the Canadian Cross Country Championships.

A former stand-out National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I runner at West Virginia University, Allison understands the balance that a student-athlete must juggle between academics and sport.

Being a successful student-athlete takes a lot of effort. Being a student comes first, and when the academic portion of being a student-athlete is in place, the student can then focus on the athletic side. When student-athletes are doing well in the classroom it translates to Athletics. Both require sacrifice, dedication, hard work, and resiliency.”

During Allison’s time representing the WVU Mountaineers, Allison was voted team captain and was named both an All-Big East recipient and All-East Coast recipient.

A ten-time provincial champion in track and field and two-time Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) cross country medalist, Manager of Varsity and Operations, John Sharpe is confident in Allison to lead the Sting through the cross country season.

“Scott has a proven track record of developing and coaching runners. Scott has the experience, personality and approach to help the Sting runners reach their full potential and peak at championship season.”

The hiring of Allison comes just weeks before the start of the 2023 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) season. Tryouts for the Cross Country Running team will commence on Tuesday, September 12. The Sting will host the first OCAA invitational of the season on Friday, September 22 at Seneca’s King Campus.
