
McNeilly, Alexander, Ortabaev Receive OCAA Recognition
Jay McNeilly has been named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men's Basketball East Division Coach of the Year while Jerron Alexander (OCAA East Division First Team All-Star) and Atsa Ortabaev (OCAA East Division All-Rookie Team) also received recognition.
McNeilly, head coach of the men's basketball team, led the Sting to a 12-6 record during the regular season, highlighted by a nine-game win streak. McNeilly fostered a defense-first mindset which saw the Sting named the East Division Best Defensive Team, leading the OCAA in points allowed (66.8).
Alexander (Vaughan), a second-year forward was second on the team in scoring (10.6) and led the Sting in rebounding with 9.7 rebounds per game. Alexander shot 58.1 percent from the field and was fourth in the OCAA in rebounds per game.
Ortabaev (Aurora) was a bright addition to the Sting this season, adding 5.4 points per game and playing valuable minutes (16.9) during the season. Ortabaev scored a career-high 11 points on three separate occasions.
