Tso, Lau Reach Final at National Championship
Anthony Tso and Jordan Lau made a historic comeback in the semi-final to punch their ticket to the gold medal match at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Badminton National Championships. The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) champions, leading by a set, overcame an 18-13 deficit in the second set before rattling off six straight points to win the match 22-20, 21-19.
Tso and Lau started day two of the national championship by defeating the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) champions from Mount Allison University 21-15, 21-16 before suffering their first setback of the championship, closing out the round robin by falling to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) champions from SAIT Polytechnic 21-19, 23-25, 13-21. The loss left the Sting in a three-way tie atop the men's doubles standings with four wins and a loss, but found themselves in third place after losing tiebreakers to both ACAC and ACAC2.
With the win, the Sting will get a shot at redemption against the SAIT Trojans in the gold medal match Saturday afternoon. A win would be a second national championship for Tso after winning gold in 2022 to go along with a pair of bronze medals (2023, 2024), each in men's doubles. It would also be a first CCAA medal for Lau who is in his first year with the Sting.
The championship is being hosted by The Kings University in Edmonton, AB.
