Sting Advance to National Semi-Final

Yoana Peralta and Martina Pannia scored for the Seneca Sting in a 2-0 win over the Brandon Bobcats to open the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Championship.

The defending national champions controlled the action throughout the quarter-final contest, limiting the Bobcats' offense in recording their fourth straight shutout against the CCAA's best teams dating back to last season.

Peralta opened the scoring for the Sting in the 45th minute, driving home a free kick from 25 yards out near the sideline. The high-arcing shot sailed over all the players in the box, including the Bobcats' goalkeeper.

Pannia doubled the Sting lead in the 54th minute in a near duplicate of her Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) championship match goal. From just inside 30 yards, Pannia struck a high shot which found the top right corner of the goal, stunning the Bobcats early in the second half.

Peralta was named Player of the Match for the Sting, continuing her "big game" performances following being named most valuable player of the 2023 CCAA Women's Soccer National Championship.

The Sting will take on les Nomades de Montmorency in the semi-final on Thursday at 3pm PST (6pm EST).
